E-mobility
Our contribution to e-mobility
A lot is moved at our airport: passengers, goods, fuel, aircraft parts and much more. This consumes fuel and generates carbon dioxide. We are therefore gradually converting our vehicle fleet to electric vehicles to protect the climate. The electricity for the vehicles comes from 100% renewable sources.
Bodensee-Airport is phasing out all of its existing baggage vehicles and will be using the most modern electric models available in future
By 2022, a total of eight modern electric vehicles will completely replace the previous fleet of baggage transport tugs at the airport. Lake Constance Airport is thus investing in environmentally friendly vehicles to replace the previous diesel-powered tugs. This contract was awarded regionally and went to the Bad Waldsee-based manufacturer VOLK Fahrzeugbau GmbH. The vehicles are equipped with batteries from Allgäu Batterie GmbH & Co. KG from Haldenwang.

Bodensee-Airport has procured 3 electric ground power units
The aircraft is stationary, the engines are off, but there is still noise and exhaust fumes on the apron: the aircraft must be supplied with electricity during its ground time. Until now, this has been provided by mobile diesel-powered generators.
But there is another way: a new generation of battery-powered ground power units has been in use at Bodensee-Airport Friedrichshafen since 2024.
6 high-power charging (HPC) charging points are available at Bodensee-Airport – fly, charge, drive on emission-free
Fimra IONITY’s charging park for electric vehicles is a further step in the expansion of Lake Constance Airport as an important and unique mobility hub in the region. Traveling to the airport, including the ultra-fast charging option, is now also conveniently possible by electric car. This complements the existing options of traveling by public transport by bus, FlixBus, train and even by catamaran when docking at the port of Friedrichshafen.
